MINI OBC Retrofit

With the parts ready, the next thing to arm yourself with is the official retrofit installation instructions - available in PDF form from HERE.

The tools you will need are a Torx T-20 driver, a Torx T-50 driver, a small Philips screwdriver, a small flatblade screwdriver and a small pair of pliers or grips. You’ll also need around 15-20 small cable ties (aka tag ties, tywraps, etc).

First off, and most importantly disconnect the battery to prevent any problems occuring from accidental connections or disconnecting plugs.

Now, we need to get to the back of the passenger compartment fusebox, located on the front left hand side of the front footwell. Remove the fuse cover and you’ll see this:

Fuse Box, LH footwell

To get access to the fusebox requires the entire inner sill trim to be removed - first off remove the stud fastener at the front by gently pulling the round pin straight out with a pair of pliers, once the pin has come out about 10mm/½” then the whole fastener will be loose and can be removed from the trim panel.

Hi there Martin this is quite interesting, as my wife has an ‘52 MCS and it does not have the OBC. This would be quite beneficial as we are never sure what the MPG is and fuel left in the tank so something like this would help. Is it quite straightforward to do? Is it something that we could also get off a written off MCS or would we need to get it new? Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks Franco
